“Spiritual toughness is part of the overall mission of the Navy and for each sailor, just like physical and mindset toughness,” explains Miguel Barboza, RP1, Religious Program Specialist.
Miguel knows firsthand how important it is to stay rooted in God when you’re in the military. After returning from a tour in Afghanistan with the Marines, he says, “I didn’t have PTSD, but I did have some anger issues. I would go from 0 to 60 and be full-blown yelling at people.
“I was heading down a dark path. Along with the doctors, my chaplain helped me a lot. It was religion that brought me back.”
In just a few weeks our nation will observe Memorial Day, when we honor the dedication of those who’ve given their all to protect our freedom. Sending Bibles to today’s serving military and our veterans is a great way to pay it forward!
