Greetings, my brothers and sisters!
This morning, I woke up thinking of Romans 12:2:
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (NIV)
It's unclear to me why this verse came to mind, but I'm really glad it did! We need to remind ourselves, from time to time, that it is our job to study the Bible, learn from it, and apply it to our lives.
Today, from the NASB Charles F. Stanley Life Principles Bible (available in Bible Gateway Plus), I'm reminded by Dr. Stanley's insight into why it's essential to study the Bible regularly.
He says, "God does not want us to try hard to sin less, but to depend upon His Spirit to be transformed into people who love to please God through willing obedience. That transformation begins with the mind."
If we are stuck in our ways and keep doing what we've always done, that isn't "renewing" our minds. It is more like a rut.
For transformation to 'begin with the mind,' we need to make a habit of regular study. Even if we have limited time, we may find moments of profound clarity that can empower us. As we draw closer to God, we may become better people, and be refreshed when life is demanding or difficult.
