In Matthew, the order is bread, temple, and then worship. In Luke, the order is bread, worship, and then temple. Grudem concludes that "this is not a serious challenge to inerrancy because at least one of the authors has simply used a thematic arrangement of the temptations and has not claimed otherwise."
I found this reasoning reassuring, and I hope it is encouraging to you.
My suggestion for anyone who has questions about the validity of Scripture, what passages mean, or how to apply it to their life is that the answer to their questions can only be found with deeper Bible study.
With that said, I'm intrigued by the differences between Matthew and Luke and, more importantly, how Jesus responded to the devil.
Why don't you join me, and read these passages and each entry from the Believer's Bible Commentary (available with Bible Gateway Plus).
I don't know about you, but I'm going to dig deep into Chapter 4 from both Matthew and Luke to learn everything I can about how Jesus defeated the devil.
Join me in my study of God's Word, with Bible Gateway Plus.
Blessings,
Jody
