Let's read Luke 10:23 together: 23 Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it." Let's repeat what Jesus said to his disciples, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it." What is so important about "what you see?" |

In the New Testament, originally written in Greek, you'll find that the Greek word that "see" is translated from is blepō. Mounce's Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words starts off defining it as a word that generally means "to see." But, he goes on in the next paragraph to say: blepō also can refer to the related ideas such as paying attention, being careful, or perceiving such as keeping alert or on guard (Mk 13:33; also 1 Cor. 1:26; 2 Cor. 10:7; Rom 7:23; Heb 2:9)—e.g., "see to it that …" (Mk 8:15; Gal 5:15). blepō refers to perceiving spiritual truths In Paul's statement that "[I] see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members" (Rom 7:23; cf. Heb 2:9; Rev 3:18). Did you know that this same idea around seeing is also mentioned in Matthew 13:16-17? Go read it now. |
