"Why don't you just read the Bible like a normal person?!"
The comment hit me like a ton of bricks on a Monday morning. It was left on a video I posted on my business account showing how I use stickers and scrapbook paper during my Bible study time. Not only is this something I've done for years in my own personal time with the Lord, but it has also become part of the work I now do: creating tools to help others engage Scripture in similar ways.
What struck me most is that her comment didn't really have anything to do with stickers or paper. It revealed something deeper: a misunderstanding of how differently God has wired us to learn, process, and engage with truth. |

"Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering." —Hebrews 13:3 God's Word instructs us as believers to remember those in prison as if we were behind bars, sitting right next to them. But how can we do this? Thanks to Prison Fellowship, living out this verse is simple and life-changing for us and for our incarcerated brothers and sisters. The answer? Bibles. Your gift today will help put Bibles and Christian content into the hands of waiting prisoners. Give now to reach men and women with what they need most: God's Word! Thank you for remembering those in prison. |

The "normal" story which almost all modern Christianity tells about the soul comes into sharp focus at funerals. We assume, along with most of Western culture, that the point of Christianity is "to go to heaven when you die." But that is not the story which the Bible itself, both Old and New Testaments, is actually telling.
Rather, the great story the Bible tells, from Genesis to Revelation, is about God's purpose and promise to come and live with us. To make his home with us, as Jesus said on the night he was betrayed (John 14:23). In Revelation's "new Jerusalem," the redeemed will see the face of God (Rev. 22:4), not because they have gone to dwell with God but because he has come to make his home with them (Rev. 21:3). |
| One of the biggest myths about mental health that I encounter among Christians is that God doesn't care about mental health issues. Perhaps this myth has continued because the church has been so silent that most people assume it's true.
But God does care.
Of course he does, because he cares about you.
God cares about mental health issues, which may be why they show up so much in the Bible, especially in the book of Psalms. |
