You’ve probably heard the phrase YOLO — “You only live once.” It’s catchy. It’s been used to justify everything from reckless spending to spur of the moment decisions. But for all its hype, YOLO might be one of the most misleading ideas we’ve embraced.
Why? Because it implies that this is all there is. That the goal of life is to squeeze out as much pleasure, achievement, or comfort as possible before the clock runs out.
As followers of Jesus, we believe something very different — something that changes everything: You don’t only live once. You live twice.

Right now, too many prisoners are struggling with loneliness, isolation, and despair. But God’s Word brings hope, even in the hardest places.
When you give to Prison Fellowship, you can place Bibles into the hands of incarcerated men and women. The demand is unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Revival is breaking out behind prison walls, and it starts with God’s Word.
Give today so more prisoners can encounter the power of God’s Word.

Conversely, PRRI found 43% of young women identify as religiously unaffiliated, up from 29% in 2013, with many citing disagreement with their church’s traditional gender roles and outspoken politics. Despite these trends, women still make up about 60% of active congregation members. (AP, RNS)

The “normal” story which almost all modern Christianity tells about the soul comes into sharp focus at funerals. We assume, along with most of Western culture, that the point of Christianity is “to go to heaven when you die.” But that is not the story which the Bible itself, both Old and New Testaments, is actually telling.
Rather, the great story the Bible tells, from Genesis to Revelation, is about God’s purpose and promise to come and live with us. To make his home with us, as Jesus said on the night he was betrayed (John 14:23). In Revelation’s “new Jerusalem,” the redeemed will see the face of God (Rev. 22:4), not because they have gone to dwell with God but because he has come to make his home with them (Rev. 21:3).

One of the biggest myths about mental health that I encounter among Christians is that God doesn’t care about mental health issues. Perhaps this myth has continued because the church has been so silent that most people assume it’s true.
But God does care.
Of course he does, because he cares about you.
God cares about mental health issues, which may be why they show up so much in the Bible, especially in the book of Psalms.
