With all our stress and full schedules leading up to Christmas, it's time to pause and reflect on Jesus' birth. Let's read this passage from Isaiah 9:6 (NIV): |
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. |
This evening, I look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus and reflecting on his importance as a source of hope, peace, and strength. |

As I wrote this, I couldn't get "Prince of Peace" out of my head. So, I dug in with The NIV Biblical Theological Study Bible available with Bible Gateway Plus. I was drawn by the detail it gives on each child's "names." And, although I could go through each of them, I love how it describes the name, "Prince of Peace." It says, "Unlike the princes in the pagan pantheon who were always the source of trouble and upheaval, this child will be the source of "peace," a biblical concept that includes much more than mere absence of conflict; it speaks of wholeness and integration with no issues left unresolved."
As we transition tomorrow into Christmas Day, I encourage you to reflect on the wholeness of the peace brought to us by Jesus Christ. |
