Good morning Friend,
As we approach New Years Eve, I thought I'd share a few thoughts and ideas you might consider as we move into 2025. Many of us have aspirational goals to read the entire Bible in a year which requires dedication and might feel overwhelming. I've learned that for me, setting small, achievable goals is more practical and I stay motivated longer.
I have previously shared that I receive our Verse of the Day in my email inbox each morning. I hope you enjoy that as much as I do! Combining it with Bible Gateway Plus will bring you key insights each day.
Today's Verse of the Day is Matthew 11:28, which may be the best thing we can hear after the busy holidays. Jesus says "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." When I read more about the meaning of this verse, I found a sense of peace in Thru The Bible by J. Vernon McGee. He says this passage "is like coming out of a blizzard into the warmth of a spring day, like passing from a storm into a calm, like going from darkness into light."
He went on to describe this as "a personal invitation to find the 'rest' of salvation... 'I will give you rest' is literally, 'I will rest you.'"
This rest from Jesus can come from regular Bible study. If you are ready to go deeper, beyond the Verse of the day, consider signing up to a full Reading plan. I've chosen to follow the "New Testament in a Year" Reading Plan in 2025, and I will read the passage in my inbox. When I have questions about a specific passage, I will use the resources available within my Bible Gateway Plus membership, referencing study Bibles and commentaries for insight.
Receiving a reading plan via email can be a stepping stone to deeper learning. Sign up here to receive this or any one of our reading plans. Don't miss the opportunity to take advantage of our sale and upgrade to Bible Gateway Plus to find answers when you are asking questions.
Join me and commit to your goal of reading the Bible more in 2025. You'll find comfort in reading the Bible, have a partner in your studies with Bible Gateway Plus, and begin to deepen your relationship with Christ as you connect with what you've learned through your studies.
Blessings,
Jody
