Even simple stories from the Bible contain more depth than you can imagine. Just think back to one of the more famous stories, where we have a young hero named David beating a giant named Goliath. In the New International Version, 1 Samuel 17:50 sums up his triumph and reads:
"David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him."
Maybe that story of David inspires you to go on in the face of any challenge you face, but there's so much more. Have you read all of 1 Samuel 17?
David struggled with many of the same issues each of us has had to deal with at some point in our lives. For example, in verse 28, David was accused of conceit (NIV) or insolence (NKJV) when he only asked a question.
Not only will you be able to identify with people like David, you'll find that the Bible is full of history. It's not a novel made up by the best writers of our time, but it is full of background details around culture, geography, and descriptions of ancient weapons.
