What is the Torah? Tremper Longman starts this video talking about how the book of Genesis is the foundation of the Bible, but as part of the Torah. The Torah refers to the first 5 books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. The NIV Theological Study Bible goes on to define these books as the Pentateuch, which also means, "five-volume work" and comes from the Greek term pentateuchos. Now, Torah is actually a Hebrew which is roughly translated from a Greek word meaning "law." Read more about the Pentateuch in the NIV Theological Study Bible to learn more about the laws set up in the first 5 books of the Bible. |
