I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. | Encouragement for Exhausted Pastors. In 2 Timothy 1 Paul is encouraging a discouraged Timothy. There is at least one unique encouragement in every verse. Was Timothy Timid or Fearful? The normal picture people have of Timothy was that he was timid, a picture largely centered on 2 Timothy 1:7—"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self–discipline."
