The Sermon on the Mount is Jesus' foundational ethical and spiritual lesson. It's his first major speech after his baptism and temptation in the wilderness, and it includes some of the most-quoted passages in the gospels — if not the entire Bible. It's also one of the longest speeches he gives in any gospel and comprises all of Matthew 5-7.

The Dead Sea Scrolls are about 930 fragmentary manuscripts discovered in caves of the Judean wilderness between 1947-1952. Written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, these texts were copied or crafted by a Jewish scribal community who lived at Qumran, just off the northwest shore of the Dead Sea, from around 100 BC to 68 AD.
The scrolls contain a diversity of writings, including our earliest original language copies of many Old Testament books, predating the major medieval codices of the Hebrew Scriptures by a millennium.

| The word metamorphosis describes a radical transformation. It is most strikingly seen in the way a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly.
We undergo a spiritual metamorphosis when we come to faith in Christ. We put to death our old "caterpillar" state and begin a new life in our "butterfly" stage. Whereas before we were bound to the ways and whims of the world, we now find freedom, life, purpose, and hope. Jesus takes us from the depths of the grave to the heights of heaven.
When Paul paints this vivid picture of a believer's metamorphosis in Romans, he is not merely presenting an image but also making a declaration: Through faith in Christ, we die to our old life and slavery to sin. | |
