There are always obstacles in our path. Sometimes we over-schedule ourselves and have a hard time getting from point A to point B. Reading and comparing Scripture, particularly during busy times like the holidays, can provide clarity when we have questions. Bible Gateway has a fantastic selection of translations. As Greg stated above, one of the first steps to understanding a Bible passage can be to compare translations side by side. Let's use Proverbs 3: 5-6 in the NIV translation. |
5Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. |
What does it mean when it says, "he will make your paths straight?" Reading the same verse in another translation can give additional perspective but it also might leave you wanting to learn more. For example, here is what is stated in the King James Version: |
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. |
It reads differently but raises the same question. Bible Gateway Plus will give you access to premium resource such as the NIV Study Bible where you can get clarity on this verse. It reads: |
"He will remove the obstacles from your pathway and bring you to your appointed goal" |
